Board of Directors Meeting

October 4, 2017

 

The Snowmobile North Dakota Board of Directors held a web meeting on October 4, 2017.

 

Members Present: Dale Deibert, Joanne Seifert, Joel Iverson, Shawn Cole, Brent Haugen, Troy Klevgard, Paula Berg, Laura Forbes, Keri Wanner proxy for Perry Brintnell, Sherman Pladsen

 

Excused Absent: Jeff Seifert, Jesse Fritz, Quince Hambek

 

Unexcused Absent: Reily Bata

 

Others Present: Todd Thronson – Executive Director, Tari Norby – Office Manager, Matt Gardner – NDPRD, Erik Dietrich – NDPRD

 

  1. Call to order at 7:07 PM by Troy Klevgard
  2. Approve Agenda – Dale made a motion to accept the agenda, seconded by Shawn, approved by all members present
  • Approve Minutes
    1. The minutes of the May meeting were e-mailed to all board members prior to the meeting.
    2. Keri made a motion to accept the minutes, seconded by Joel, approved by all members present
  1. Financial Reports
    1. The financial reports were e-mailed to all board members prior to the meeting
    2. Laura made a motion to accept the financial reports as written, seconded by Keri, approved by all members present
  2. Reports
    1. President’s Report: nothing reported
    2. Office Report:
      1. Continue to have good traffic with Facebook, Issuu and website. Most viewed pages are trails and grooming forms
      2. Sno-Dak news is printing now, working on new advertisers
  • No memberships have come in yet but it’s still pretty early in the season
  1. Todd attended the NOHVCC and ISC conventions this summer, very informative, good networking
  1. NDPRD Report:
    1. New director Melissa getting settled in
    2. Mapping grasslands
  • Out of state permits revamped and OHV and snowmobiles both on the website or phone app now along with trail permit for tracked dirt bikes only – it’s a hidden feature that will go live November 1
  1. Working on RFP for strategic plan
  2. Contact Erik or Tari for enforcement and safety classes
  3. Registration numbers are higher than they were this time last year
  • Working on a time to test tracked OHVs on the trail system after it snows = 4×4, dirt bike, mountain sled, side by side on a packed trail meeting and passing what happens under varying trail conditions
  • Working to implement tracked bikes as voted on at last convention, next step is 4x4s or side by sides. Permits are good for one season only and this is a trial season only to see what happens.
  1. Will check with insurance to make sure it covers all tracked vehicles not just snowmobiles on the trails
  1. Committee Reports
    1. Equipment Committee – will need to reschedule, Todd will take over for Perry
    2. Budget Committee – will meet at the convention to simplify the financial reports
    3. Regulations Committee – no updates
    4. Awards and Nominations Committee
      1. 2017 SND Hall of Fame – Tari and Laura are working on the nomination
    5. Trails Operations Committee – start signing when crops are off, apply for an extension soon if you’re going to be late getting trails signed
  • Old Business
    1. Probation Systems – both the Northeast and East Central Valley are up to date so far
    2. Groomer Tracking Software & Mapping Program Update
      1. Background map is Google maps
      2. Dashboard replay tracks where groomer has been
  • Get raw data more meaningful
  1. New GPS units upgrade for free
  2. Start regional meetings soon, get trail coordinators involved
  • New Business
    1. 2017 State Convention in Bismarck December 16 – Board Meeting Friday the 15th at 7pm at Ramada Inn
      1. Registration Information coming soon in Sno-Dak News
    2. 2018 State Ride – Edinburg will host for the Tri County Trailriders Club on February 9th & 10th
    3. Tracked Vehicles on Trails
      1. This will be discussed more at regional meetings and maybe also at breakout meetings at convention
    4. Perry Brintnell – will use proxy for meetings and Todd will take over at Equipment Committee and classes
    5. Marketing Ideas
      1. Try to get some insurance companies for advertisers
      2. Any additional businesses for advertisers, give names to Tari and she’ll contact
  • Tourism Summit Meeting – shows partner with tourism – more info coming later
  1. Todd got some good ideas for State Ride from NOHVCC
